Welcome to the age of HomeFarming
We are a permaculture farm in Bouvard, Western Australia, our aim is to produce a wide
range of home-grown eggs, fruit, veg and honey in a sustainable, economic way. By
giving tours of our farm, we hope to help others discover new ways to design and build
their own productive permaculture garden.
Permaculture is a way of designing your backyard to work like a natural ecosystem,
where everything supports everything else. Instead of fighting nature, you work with it -
planting fruit trees that provide shade, growing vegetables underneath them and letting
chickens scratch below to eat pests and fertilise the soil. The idea is to stack useful
plants and animals together so that the whole garden produces more food and requires
less effort over time
In practice it means things like collecting rainwater to feed your garden beds,
composting kitchen scraps to feed the soil, planting natives to attract beneficial insects,
and choosing perennial plants that come back year after year without replanting. A well
designed permaculture backyard gradually becomes more productive and self
sustaining, giving you food, shade, habitat and resilience - all from a small suburban
space!
